Malaysia National Team captain Steffi Sarge Kaur paid a visit to the girls of Liga Suparimau Klang Valley on Saturday 5th November.
Appearing at Sayfol International School to watch the girls matches, meet the players and take part in mini games, Steffi imparted her knowledge and words of encouragement on the Under 10, Under 12, Under 14 and Under 17 participants.
Speaking at the matches, Steffi was quick to highlight the improved platform for girls offered by Liga Suparimau’s girls-specific age groups.
‘When I started playing football, I never had this platform where there is 3 or 4 girls categories, like Under 10, 12, and 14,’ says Steffi. ‘I started playing with boys barefooted!
‘I think what Liga Suparimau is doing is very good because we see a lot of girls now playing, and we have a lot of potential talented young players.’

Also present at the matches on Saturday were FA Malaysia Technical Director, Scott O’Donnell, and Head of Grassroots, Cameron Ng.
Speaking about Steffi’s presence at the girls league, Scott said:
‘It’s good for the girls to see her and have a role model. At least there’s someone to look up to.
‘They can say: “There’s the national team captain who’s come down to see us play!” If they don’t have people like Steffi then who do they look up to?’
Steffi’s visit to the league was capped by a keepy-up competition, a one-on-one challenge and some exciting participation prizes from our partners at Boost Juice and VW.
We’d like to say a big thank to Steffi for her time over the weekend and we hope her appearance was inspiring for all the young girls playing in Liga Suparimau.
